Being a lover of red wine Taffy’s initial planting in 1996 was Pinot Noir and Breidecker. After buying a neighbouring property in 2000 the varieties have expanded to include Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Reisling and Chardonnay.

 

Each wine has been tended and harvested by hand to ensure that only the best quality grapes were selected. The philosophy of growing wine in our vineyard ensures sustainable winegrowing techniques which minimise spray and human intervention in the grape growing process.

Our flagship wine, perhaps a less well known variety but one that really suits the climate in Kaikoura and has a solid place in the history of wine in New Zealand. A light and delicate medium white wine with granny smith apples on the nose and nicely balanced on the palate, good for drinking now with summer salads and seafood platters.

 

 

Pinot Noir

A tricky wine to grow but the low yielding fruit at Springbank Estate produce a rich and distinctive fruit driven pinot noir with earthy undertones, forrest floor mushroom on the nose and a soft black cherry on palate.

 

 

Pinot Gris

The first vintage of an exciting little grape, this white wine has a delightful blush and exhibits dry and mineral characteristic. Hints of honeysuckle and violets when bottled.

 

 

Chardonnay

A rich wine with flavours of rockmelon and balanced with toasted oak characteristics. Wonderful drinking qualities now, which will continue to develop with further cellaring.

 

 

Sauvignon Blanc

Light bodied, dry, tangy wine with pleasing aromas of gooseberry, lime and nuances of passionfruit. The palate is slim and fruity, nicely finished with a mouthwatering crisp acidity.

a Vibrant and bright Pink with crisp and luscious wild berry fruit flavours. A fresh and lively medium-dry Rose with good body and acid balance. Good for drinking this summer.
